The San Diego Historical Society is an educational and cultural institution dedicated to preserving and sharing its growing historical collections and extensive archives with its members, visitors, and the community. They strive to connect the past to the future so all generations will understand and appreciate the richness of San Diego's regional history. The Historical Society maintains four separate museum facilities.
The Museum of San Diego History, located in the heart of Balboa Park, is the headquarters of the San Diego Historical Society. Here you will not only find a collection of intriguing exhibitions that chronicle San Diego’s diverse history, but also the Historical Society's Research Library. This is home to over 45 million pieces of paper and 2.5 million images that document the people, places and events of San Diego’s past.
The Historical Society's other museum facilities include the Junipero Serra Musuem, located in Presidio Park; the Marston House, located in Balboa Park; and Villa Montezuma, located in downtown San Diego.
