Established in 1968, La Jolla Music Society is a major presenter of classical music in San Diego and is known for bringing a dynamic array of performing arts to the county. Series presented by La Jolla Music Society include Revelle chamber music, Celebrity Orchestra, Piano, Dance, and Jazz. Since its establishment, La Jolla Music Society has strived to increase the appreciation for and understanding of performing arts through world-class performances as well as its education and outreach programs within the community.
Many of its performances are held at the Sherwood Auditorium at the Museum of Contemporary Art (La Jolla), but they also perform at several other venues, including Balboa Park, Qualcomm Hall, San Diego Civic Theatre, Copley Symphony Hall and more.
Each August, the Society's annual highlight is SummerFest, a nationally-recognized chamber music festival featuring a multitude of world-class artists and ensembles performing concerts over a 3-week period. Since its inception in 1986, SummerFest has welcomed over 550 renowned artists and ensembles, four talented artistic directors and nearly a quarter of a million audience members at venues in San Diego and over the airwaves nationwide.
