In 1937, Bing Crosby greeted the first guests to the Del Mar Racetrack. The famed Seabiscuit race drew 20,000 fans to the track in 1938. The Del Mar Racetrack established itself early on as a playground to the stars, which attracted such famed celebrities as Ava Gardner, Pat O’Brien, Jimmy Durante, Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Mickey Rooney and many more. The excitement continues today as the Del Mar Racetrack now attracts over one million fans each season throughout its six week run.
The Del Mar Racetrack is located about 20 miles north of downtown San Diego. Horseracing here is seasonal, generally mid-July through early-September.
The food choices at the track include concessions, such as burgers, carved sandwiches, fish & chips, pizza and chicken, as well as a number of restaurants (some of them requiring advance reservations).
