Coronado Beach runs the length of Ocean Avenue. Lifeguards are on duty seasonally. Restrooms and shower facilities are available. You will find tidepools to explore and a fishing area to cast a line. There are also fire rings available to use. Food is not sold on the beach so be sure to bring a picnic or snacks before heading out to the beach for the day. Free parking is available on Ocean Boulevard, but fills up quickly, especially during the summer. On the beach south of the Hotel Del Coronado, you can see the hull of the sunken gambling ship Monte Carlo, which washed ashore in 1936. In the early morning you may see Navy SEALs running along the beach since Coronado is home to one of the SEALs training facilities. The beach also offers great views of Point Loma as well as the Coronado Islands, about 13 miles offshore. Tijuana can be seen to the south. You may even be lucky enough to see whale's tails as they migrate to Mexico's warmer waters from December to February.
At the north end of Ocean Boulevard you will find Dog Beach, which allows dogs to romp leash-free with their owners. There is also an area to hose off man's best friend before heading home. If you visit Coronado, do not miss the spectacular sunsets. Join the crowd that gathers each evening to watch this amazing show.
